Oral Health Evaluation:
Dental hygiene exams will be conducted on all patients in order to determine the status of their oral health and possibly systemic contributing factors.
The following will be conducted during these exams:
- Internal and external oral examination.
- Oral cancer screening.
- Periodontal probe depth measurements.
- X-rays (if needed).
- Health history evaluation.
- Smoking cessation education (if applicable).
Local Anesthetic:
Our team of Dental Hygiene Practitioners ( C ) are licensed to provide local anesthetic or other desensitizing agents to provide you with a pain-free experience.
Scaling/Root Planing:
The most important part of any dental cleaning is scaling/root planing, which is the removal of all calculus (tartar) and plaque build-up on teeth. This build-up harbours bacteria that is harmful and can cause acute and chronic inflammation, leading to periodontal disease. The amount of scaling/root planing that is needed is patient dependent, some people require more or less.
Polishing:
Polishing is the removal of soft plaque and stains that accumulate on teeth. This will also make the surface of the teeth smoother and harder for bacteria to re-adhere right away.
Fluoride Treatments:
Fluoride is important in cavity prevention, but also can treat tooth sensitivity and reverse the early stages of cavity formation.
Whitening Treatments:
There are various methods of whitening treatments, but the most common is take-home whitening kits. This allows for gradual whitening and decreased risk of tooth sensitivity. In-office whitening treatments provide quicker results.
